How to Clean and Maintain Your Resilient Floor Jun 22, 2023

What is a resilient floor?

As defined by the Resilient Floors Institute (RFCI):

Resilient flooring is defined as "a non-woven flooring that is resilient to the touch and has the property of recovering from repeated compression."

Unlike cement-based surfaces such as polished concrete, terrazzo, dry-shake concrete floor, ceramic tile, and stone floors, it appears to be elastic, but it's nothing to do with  "bounce" actually. It is very popular in education, healthcare, logistics warehousing and transportation industries since it can prevent deep slippery injuries when people fall compared to hard floor surfaces.

From the material point of view, the elastic floor is divided into homogeneous structure and heterogeneous structures. Homogeneous means that the resilient floor is a single layer of material from top to bottom, such as rubber floor, VCT (Vinyl Ceramic Tile), Cork and heterogeneous refers to a flooring structure with layers (multi-layers), typically each layer of products has a separate chemical reaction, such as LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile with rich decorative patterns).

What types of resilient surfaces are there?

For example:

· PVC

· Linoleum

· Rubber floor

· Vinyl floors such as VCT and LVT

· Epoxy resin floor

What are the characteristics of resilient floors?

Resilient floors such as PVC and epoxy resin floors have the characteristics of elasticity, safety, acid and alkali resistance, wear resistance, pressure resistance, impact resistance, mildew resistance, waterproof, dustproof, easy maintenance and cleaning, etc., so they are widely used in commercial scenarios Medical and health industries such as hospitals, nursing homes, educational institutions such as schools, property communities, transportation institutions such as airports, trains, and industrial scenes such as pharmaceutical factories, electronics factories, warehousing and logistics industries, etc.

What are common maintenance challenges and solutions for resilient floors?

The most popular resilient floor in Europe is PVC, Linoleum and Rubber floor but in North America, it should be VCT and LVT. Taking the PVC floor as an example, the main cleaning and maintenance challenges are:

1. The floor stripping works as usual rely too much on the floor stripper chemical agent, which is costly, has an terrible smell, is harmful to the human body, and requires high experience and skills of the operators. It relies too much on labor, and if the floor wax removal water is not completely removed then it will bring out the secondary damage, resulting in color spots and other problems.

2. The floor is severely worn due to the flow of people, there are many scratches on the ground, and the wax surface is seriously worn out.

3. The daily cleaning of the floor is difficult to continue, and there is a lack of scientific overall solutions and standards.

resilient floor renovation and stripping

For the application of floor stripping works (wax or PU coatings removal), we recommend

TVX Square Orbital Machine TF-1517S + SPP Floor Stripping Pad or Diamond Floor Stripping Pad

Method: For thick wax, add water and some floor stripper chemicals, and walk 6-8 times for each operation. It is recommended to use counterweight;

For thin wax, you can use water only, no floor stripper chemicals needed.

Advantage:

1. The machine moves 1740 times per minute, which has high removal efficiency, saves the amount of wax removal water, and is environmentally friendly and healthy

2. Save the cost of chemical agents

3. The machine is simple and easy to use, without swinging, without excessive training and operating experience requirements, and can be used close to the edge, saving time for manual cleaning of corners

Effect: Effectively remove the residual wax surface, make the floor clean, and prepare for re-coating jobs

industrial Des floor maintenance

For the application of deep cleaning to remove scratches on the floor,

For small areas, we recommend

TVX Floor Orbital Machine TF-1517R or

TVX Square Orbital Machine TF-1517S or

TVX Single Disc Machine TF-1517P

For large-area work, we recommend

Ride-on auto floor scrubber T130 or T150

Recommended consumables: black pad or deep cleaning diamond floor pad

Method: Add water to use, it is recommended to work 6-8 times on the work area, it is recommended to use the counterweight

Advantage:

1. The speed of the single-cleaning machine and the vibrating machine is high, the pressure of the disc brush is high, and the deep cleaning efficiency is high

2. The vibrating machine is easy to operate, without swing operation, and does not require too much experience from the operator

3. The floor washing machine is suitable for large-scale operations, clean and efficient

Effect: Effectively remove scratches on the ground, making the ground as clean as new, and need to be waxed for protection in the future
